FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa, ON - Today, the Hon. Erin O’Toole, Leader of Canada’s Conservatives, shared the Conservative plan to secure child care for Canadian families.

“After three decades of broken promises from the Liberals, Justin Trudeau talks a good game on child care, but he has failed to deliver,” O’Toole said. “The pandemic has had a serious impact on women’s participation in the workforce and we need a serious plan now to support child care, so women can return to work.”

Through Canada’s Recovery Plan, Canada’s Conservatives will convert the Child Care Expense deduction into a refundable tax credit covering up to 75 per cent of the cost of child care, with lower income families receiving the most support. A Conservative government will work with the provinces to ensure the program is harmonized with provincial programs.

Under the Conservative plan, the most significant benefit will go to families with income under $50,000. The biggest boost will be to low- and middle-income families, making child care significantly more affordable. The proposed changes will provide more assistance to almost all Canadian families.

“Canada’s Recovery Plan will put parents back in the driver’s seat when it comes to choosing the child care options that work best for their children,” O’Toole said. “Canada’s Conservatives are the only party with a plan to secure the future of Canadian families.”
